solo exhibition, "wall of angels"
fotomuseum amsterdam, 2007
Rob van der Nol photographs young people, adolescents, in Amsterdam and Berlin. Through this series of b/w photos, he shows his fascination of the process of change and transition in their lives. Van der Nol goes out at night to photograph life on the streets, to capture experiences of transit, moments that lie between waking and sleep, night and day, sites of delicate exchange and metamorphosis. The result is a penetrating portrait of youths in the 2 cities
Especially for FOAM, Rob van der Nol combines his work from these 2 capitals to form an impressive installation of at least 195 b/w photocopies. The images fills the walls, from floor to ceiling, all placed directly next to and above each other. This forms a monumental image. The print method, Xerox prints, or photocopies, further accentuates the raw sense of the photos.
