Inspired by the Geertgen tot Sint-Jans, a pioneer Early Netherlandish Painter in the Northern Low Countries, 12 contemporary artists present their work in de vishal. The artists are: Lisa Couwenbergh, Pietsjanke Fokkema, Frans Franciscus, Gijs Frieling, Stefan Kasper, Cees Krijnen, Janpeter Muilwijk, Rob van der Nol, Mai van Oers, Olphaert den Otter, Jacobien de Rooij, Tessa Verder.
Geertgen tot Sint-Jans (Haarlem +/- 1465 - +/- 1495), is a master painter and has inspired many artists after him
The exhibition "Geertgen was hier" is shown at de vishal and de janskerk (north-holland archief). De vishal brings together 12 nationally known artists that have been inspired by this 15th century painter, and specifically his panel paintings.
de janskerk (noord-hollands archief)
will show replicas of all 14 works of Geertgen tot Sint-Jans in their actual sizes, together with books of his time, and other texts from the 15th century which covered him. Amongst them is the de Schilder-boeck (1604) by Karel van Mander.
de janskerk, is the oldest church in Haarlem, and was once part of the Haarlems Jans-Cloister or the Commanderie van Sint-Jan, where Geertgen worked and was later buried. Presently, the Noord-Hollands Archief is located here.
